Boy Detectives Club
Edogawa Ranpo is the pen name (derived from Edgar Allan Poe) of Taro Hirai (1894–1965). His Boy Detectives Club novels, published between 1936 and 1962, left a lasting impact on the mystery genre in Japan. The Boy Detectives Club stories overlap with Edogawa's Fiend with Twenty Faces series, the Fiend being a master of disguise and Detective Kogoro Akechi's nemesis.
During the last days of the Shogunate, the paranoid patriarch of the Miyase clan converted all of his wealth to precious metals. The location of the fabled "Big Gold Bullion" was ultimately entrusted to his grandson, who left behind only a cryptic set of instructions when he died. Now Kogoro Akechi and Yoshio Kobayashi must crack the code before every villain in the land gets there first.
A thief is on the loose in Tokyo, a smash and grab artist that targets high-end jewelry stores. The identity of this burglar is no mystery. It's a metal robot, dubbed the "Bronze Devil." With its ability to appear and disappear out of nowhere, the police are powerless to stop it—which can only mean it's time to put master sleuth Kogoro Akechi and the Boy Detectives Club on the case.
Fed up with those meddling kids from the Boy Detectives Club, the Fiend with Twenty Faces threatens to exact his revenge and walk off with a priceless work of art in the bargain! Pursuing them through haunted houses and limestone caves, the Fiend hatches a plan to lure Kogoro Akechi and the members of the Boy Detectives Club deep underground for a life-or-death struggle in the dark.
The year is 1953. UFOs are appearing all over the world. Five flying saucers zoom across the skies of Tokyo. Ichiro Hirano's next-door neighbor is kidnapped by an alien lizard creature. That same creature is now stalking Ichiro's own sister. What do these space aliens hope to accomplish? Here again is the kind of mystery that only Kogoro Akechi and the Boy Detectives Club can hope to solve.
